GB’s reports

Today GB was assigned two reports. In history class we are learning about the rain forests of the world. His assignment was to do a report on one tree in the rain forest and one animal. This is what he gave me. It isn’t in a traditional format, but I liked it. It taught me about each one. He’s getting quite good at researching using the internet. And as you can see, he’s also learned how to copy pictures into his text from Google Images. I’m glad that his Switched on Schoolhouse curriculum allows the pictures in the reports, because I feel like it added to his knowledge base. At dinner he was able to tell his Daddy all about both topics. :-)
The Sassafras Tree

The Sassafras tree is very rare because it is one of the only trees to have three different kinds of leaves.

This is a baby shoot from a Sassafras tree. It shows the different leaves.

This is the flower from the Sassafras tree. When it’s leaves are crushed it has a lemony smell.

The Sassafras trees live in Northern America and Eastern Asia. They are soft wooded trees that grow to be 50-120 feet tall.

The Anteater

The Anteater lives in Central and South America. They eat ants and termites. They draw the insects out of their dwelling by damaging it with the sharp claws on their feet.

Then when they swarm out to the damaged area the anteater sucks them all in with his sticky tongue.

In one day they will eat up to 30,000 insects.
