About Us
Robin ~ I am a SAH mom. I homeschool my 9 yo son. I used to own my own hair salon, but I sold it to one of my stylists when I was diagnosed with Lupus and Fibromyalgia. I love to read, draw, cook and watch reality TV. My favorite show is The Amazing Race. We live in the central part of Virginia, and after living all over the country, I’m very happy to be here.
My dh ~ He works for the Federal Government. He works really hard for our family and loves to come home and watch the Boston Celtics or UVA sports. He has recently discovered message boards and spends a lot of time late at night, checking the threads to find the latest Celtic news. He is very active, and really loves to play sports. He plays volleyball on Mondays and sometimes on Sundays. He goes to the Y several times a week. We spend tons of time at the swim club in our neighborhood. And he has a jetski that he takes down to the lake every chance he gets.
Aquagirl ~ Our only daughter and our oldest child. She is entering her Junior year at James Madison University. She’s trying to get a major in English with a minor in Education, another minor in Creative Writing, and another minor in Anthropology. Nobody ever said she wasn’t ambitious. When she was just entering High School she started writing a story about her favorite TV show, The Pretender. Seven years later she has finally finished it. You can read it here.
Jabem ~ Our oldest son, is entering his Freshman year at Virginia Commonwealth University. He will be studying Computer Science, and is leaning towards becoming a computer system’s analyst. He is my techie guru, and anytime I have blogging questions I go straight to him. He is a fantastic swimmer, and his best strokes are backstroke and butterfly. I’m hoping he will continue swimming when he gets to college.
Godzilla Boy (GB) ~ is my little guy. There is almost a 10 year age difference between him and Jabem. I think he was my gift from God, because he knew it would be really hard for me to let Aquagirl and Jabem go off to college. I homeschool him because I didn’t get a chance to with my older children. This is my biggest regret as a parent to date. But I’m making up for it with GB. He loves homeschooling and I love doing it, too. As long as it’s working for us, we will keep doing it. GB absolutely LOVES animals and wildlife. I have learned so much from him and his interests. And our mail has gotten a lot more interesting, too. Because of him we are now on all kinds of ‘Save the Earth/Animals’ lists. We even get letters from politicians because of him. We have a lot of experiments on this site because this is of major interest to GB. It’s up to me to keep providing him with activities to foster the interest of this amazing child. So that’s what I try to do.
We also have various assortments of animals, pets, AND bugs living with us at any given time. As of this writing, we have two dogs, a fifteen year old poodle named Murphy, and a 13 year old schnauzer/poodle (schnoodle) named Peatsy. We also have a hamster, named Teddy. We have two firebelly toads, named Pyro and Peewee. We have a skink named Stinky, and we have a lot of tadpoles that have just gotten legs and should be turning into toads any day now. We have a cricket habitat set up, because we have to feed the frogs and skink something…. sorry…. is that too much info? We also have a huge 60 gallon aquarium that houses a beautiful selection of tropical fish. That’s it for now, but I’m sure it will change soon.
