Vacation 09
This year for our vacation we went to Duck, NC. I love Duck because it is so clean and family friendly. Our house this year was so comfy. And the owner of the house was SO welcoming. I’ve never stayed anywhere where we had so much personal attention from a house owner. He left us two bottles of wine, two baguettes of freshly baked bread, and in the fridge we found a huge fruit and cheese platter. He also left toilet paper and paper towels with ALL linens such as sheets, bath mats, pot holders and cleaning cloths for the kitchen. He called us the first day we were there to welcome us to his home. He called mid-week to make sure we were comfortable and he called when we left to make sure he had accommodated all our needs. I wish all homeowners would take a note from this guy. It was called The Peachy Plover if anyone ever wants to head to Duck and stay in a house that’s been highly recommended.
Aquagirl and Red enjoyed the pool.
In this family volleyball is a staple. So they rigged up the pool first thing for some great pool volleyball.

We played a lot with baby Ellie. I’d been looking forward to her as much as I had the beach. Isn’t she a doll? That’s her mom.
GB loved these painted ponies that you find all over the Nags Head area. I think this one is particularly pretty.

This is Jabem and his friend that he brought to the beach. He was a great addition to the family!
Aquagirl and Red; this is at one of my favorite restaurants at the beach, The Jolly Roger. I had some delicious crab cakes.

Why are these chairs so funny? It’s hard to resist, isn’t it?
We went on the Wild Horse tour with the entire clan. It was great fun, although when we go to Duck in November you get to see a LOT more of the horses. I guess it was just too hot for them. We still got to see at least 20 of them.
GB loves riding the waves.

And because of storms off the coast there were some serious waves to ride.

They made me nervous, but everyone else thought they were great.

They were like this every day we were here except for the last one.

We rented a couple of bikes and saw some beautiful sunsets.
You won’t believe this but GB still doesn’t ride a bike. He just doesn’t want to learn. So we put him on a tandem bike hoping that he would enjoy it enough to want to learn once we got home. We’ll see if it works.

As I said, this family loves volleyball. And we chose this house because it had it’s own sand volleyball court.

Jabem was able to let go of some of his stress and had a great time at the beach. It’s rare to get a shot of him smiling like this.

Look at Aquagirl go!

Frisbee!

And MORE volleyball!

When GB said he wanted to be buried in the sand we all had conflicting ideas. I wanted to give him some super muscles, and Jabem and his friend wanted to give him a merman tail. So GB got both! Check out his supper ripped six pack in the chest region.

Aren’t they cute?

Rough housing…LOL!

After dinner one night we headed out to Jocky’s Ridge. I wish we’d gotten there earlier, but it was still very cool to see such humongous sand dunes. Body language tells the whole story, doesn’t it?

Even Jabem got a crack at holding Ellie. She was a very accommodating baby.

Our last morning here, we got one last pic on the beach and then headed over to Duck Donuts, which are the MOST amazing donuts you will ever eat. I highly recommend the cinnimon and the maple. Oh, they are to die for! They make them right in front of you and it’s just a small Mom & Pop type of business, which is my favorite kind of business. It was nice when we got home to have brought a bit of our beach experience with us. We munched on those donuts for three days.
