Which would you choose?
GB didn’t want to miss either one. But he loves his homeschool friends, so he made the book club meeting his priority. They were discussing Gary Paulsen’s book, ‘My Life in Dog Years.’ which GB just loved. I read it in the bathtub last night, and it was pretty good. Each chapter focuses on one of Gary’s favorite dogs from the hundreds that he’s owned in his lifetime. I told GB that if he really liked this book, then I think he would enjoy reading some of James Herriot’s books.

This was a book club for the older boys in our group, which basically means 8-11 year olds. We don’t have any kids older than that. And I was surprised by how into their discussion they became. I was outside their room, but I heard no yelling, no horseplay, and lots of laughter. It is a funny book. And GB would highly recommend it.
The pool party was halfway over by the time we got there, but there was still time for him to jump in, cool off, and have a great time before dinner.
Tomorrow we have our first swim meet of the season, so he even had a mini practice before heading home.

What a great choice.
Does his bookclub go year-round?
Also, I’m reading Deconstructing Penguins and thinking about using that as the basis for our book club next year. Have you heard of it? Read it?
