As graduations go……..
……….. this one was not too bad.
I will admit…….. I dislike graduations with an abnormal passion.
- They are LONG.
- They are BORING.
- I’ve passed out from heat at two graduations.
- I have a hard time keeping my little ones happy during graduations.
- You have to wake up so darn early for them.
- You only get to see your graduate from afar.
- I’m always starving by the time it ends.
But this one was different. Maybe because we handled it differently, or maybe it was because the college handled it differently.
First, we did not attend the early, early portion of the graduation. You know, the one where all the graduates process onto a lawn and you hear a bunch of long, and boring inspiring speeches.
Second, we had water and snacks before the second portion of the graduation started. This helped a lot.
The college also provided nice little portable bathrooms on the back edge of the field (right next to the ambulance- hahaha). I’m not talking port-a-potties here. I’m talking about portable ROOMS with air conditioning, flushing toilets, and running water to wash your hands. NICE!
And lastly, the speeches were extremely short. Sweet! They just got right to the part where your graduate goes up to the podium, shakes the hand of the dean, and gets his/her name announced. I liked that! Started and finished in under an hour! Shocking! Next year, when Aquagirl graduates, I have to remember the sunscreen. It was less than an hour, but long enough for this Irish skin to burn.
I was pretty far away, but I still got this video:
I think Aquagirl and GB have similar feelings about my constant picture taking.
But, you know, that’s the way it is.
