Colonial Sachet

Filed under: Unit Studies — Robin on April 18, 2008 @ 8:05 am

Today we made a colonial sachet. These sachet’s would have been gifts for family members during the holidays. Since the colonists rarely took baths, these sachets would make their clothing smell better when they were placed in drawers.

snipping pine

GB is collecting pine needles. It’s a good thing we have a fake Christmas tree, because come to find out….. GB dislikes the smell of pine needles. Weird, huh? I never knew anyone who disliked that smell.

sewing

Here he is sewing the pouch that will hold the needles.

Now he is turning it inside out.

adding pine needles

Next, he adds the needles.

painting sachet case

Here, he is paintin the case with a picture of a pine cone.

drawing needles on sachet

Since his fine motor skills aren’t up to snuff, he is using a marker to create pine needles. We thought painting fine lines would be out of his range. And this turned out great.

finished sachet

The finished sachet: Isn’t it adorable? And in my honest opinion, I think it smells w o n d e r f u l !

Yeah, he’d kill me if he found out that I said it was ‘adorable’. Wink
