My little niece, MK, came over today. She’s been growing her hair for about a year now so that she could donated it to Locks of Love. And I was quite happy to be part of the process.
What makes her gift even more poignant, is that her 4th grade teacher was diagnosed with cancer in February. So MK can really see the practicalities of her gift.

Here is your standard ‘BEFORE’ picture.

Measuring out the required ten inches.

Snnniiipppp!

Ta Da!!! Now, how cute is that!!

She doesn’t look like she misses it, does she?

GB doesn’t draw well. In fact, he has an intense disliking for drawing. So our nature journal will have to be creatively presented *without* drawing.
Barb’s third challenge was to go on another nature walk, but this time we were to really focus on our senses while observing nature. And we were to start documenting our finds in a journal. I think we’ll keep this journal basic for now. But as we learn more, I’d like to revisit pages and add more details.
Today we decided to focus our attention on the nearby trees. Since GB didn’t want to draw, I wanted him to feel successful with his nature representations. So we did leaf rubbings. It’s very easy, and it gives such a great impression of what we see. Because of these challenges, I’d love it if GB could learn to identify all the trees he sees.

In this photo GB is doing a holly tree, which is kind of hard because the tips of the leaves are prickly and they curl up. But you can still see the serrated edge of the leaf.

I really like how this lilac tree’s leaf turned out. There’s really good detail. And more importantly, GB liked the result.

We already have a bluebird clutch!
Last year we didn’t get a clutch until June.
Happy, happy, joy, joy!!

And I found this nest with VERY newly hatched baby birds in the tree outside my front door. I’m not sure what kind of birds they are, because I haven’t seen the mama yet.

I know it makes me sound like a little ole lady birdwatcher, but GB and I are SO excited! Let’s just say that I love babies of all kinds.
