Homeschoolers Party

Yesterday we went to a Christmas party with our fellow homeschoolers. It is SO nice to be part of this group. I really like the women I get to chat with, and GB has plenty of boys to play with. Hopefully this will really help him along in his social blunderings. He still hasn’t figured out how to play with other kids without dictating the terms to his satisfaction. And he has a hard time going with the flow.

The only problem he had yesterday was while they were playing “haunted house” in some of the unused rooms of our homeschooling enrichment center. The other kids wanted to pretend that blood was dripping off of everything…. because it was haunted, you see? And GB did not like that. He has a terrible thing against anything gross or bloody. In fact, I don’t know if any of you remember him writing to the movie and video game production companies, but he did that to try and make them put an option on movies and games that would provide a ‘clean’ scene: no blood, cussing, or suggestive themes if you wanted to turn them off.

Unfortunately, you can’t do that with other kids while you are playing, and GB got frustrated. I was able to redirect him to the cookie decorating table and pretty soon he had a table of friends all decorating cookies. Of course, lots of those cookies, frosting, and sprinkles never made it home, but it was a great-tasting time.

Usually he doesn’t want pictures taken, but weirdly enough, he asked me, “Are you going to get a picture of my cookies?” So, of course, I did. See?

The above picture is the tree decorating table. That was a great activity because it didn’t require adult supervision at all, even for the littlest kids. But look at the table below. Omg! What a mess! Glitter, and tinsel, scissors, hot glue guns…… This table needed constant care. But the snow globes the kids made were truly works of art!

Isn’t it adorable. It has a little tree in the center, with some tiny packages, a snowman made from that new kind of clay that doesn’t dry out (I can’t remember what it’s called), and tinsel to represent snow, because GB doesn’t like glitter.

And here he is decorating his foam tree.

Sorry about the blurriness. I had to grab these pictures on the fly, and get back to the glue guns.

Tonight I am going out to a nice Italian restaurant with the homeschooling moms. I can’t wait. It should be a nice chance to chat about the kids without constant interruptions.
