Our homeschooling Adventure

My issues with this weekend

Sung to the tune of The Twelve Days of Christmas.

My twelfth issue with this weekend

was the trips up and down stairs,

Eleven waterpark rides, *

Ten (times 2) gallons of gas,

Nine hours driving,

Eight hours without GB, **

Seven freaked out pets,

Six hours watching “The Stand,” ***

Five restaurants!

Four loads of laundry,

Three freakin’ computers, ****

Two college kids moving in, *****

And a screaming, aching body for ME.

* Friday, we decided to have one last hurrah as a family, and go to Water Country, USA. It was a blast, and it was nice to be there with just our core family, no friends or other family units to worry about.

**Sunday GB went to an all-day birthday party while we drove to Harrisonburg, unloaded all of Aquagirl’s stuff, and drove back. He got to play with the birthday boy’s video games. Then they had pizza (his favorite) for lunch, then off to play THREE games of Laser Tag. Next, they ate dinner at McDonald’s. Then they went to see the movie, The Simpson’s. I don’t think he was thrilled with that kind of humor, judging by the comments. Then back to the birthday boy’s house for more games. And yes, he did have a tummy ache when he got home. But I’m so grateful that he got to have a fun day, instead of tagging along on another boring car trip with lots of heavy lifting.

*** Aquagirl has been wanting to see the movie, The Stand, all Summer. She wrote a paper at college last year comparing Paradise Lost, by John Milton, and it’s good vs. evil plot, to Steven King’s good vs. evil plot in The Stand. It was an excellent paper. And she wanted to see the movie. GB was, of course, interested in the good vs. evil plot. He always is. He was a little put off by some of the romantic aspects of the movie, but was thrilled by Randall Flag’s gross looking character. And he really loved Nick, the deaf-mute man, and Tom, the retarded man in the story. So we all, as a family, sat and watched together. M*O*O*N — that spells quality family time.

**** Three freakin’ computers, along with two tv’s, a refrigerator, a microwave, a papasan chair, two bar stools, a desk chair, two book cases, and tons of boxes and bags of STUFF.

***** We moved Jabem to VCU, in Richmond, on Saturday. Then we went to a birthday party that evening for my sil. Then we moved Aquagirl to JMU, in Harrisonburg, on Sunday.

Today * I * will * vegetate!
