Our homeschooling Adventure

Cooking for Dummies

This is one of my favorite new blogs!

The Pioneer Woman Cooks!

I think all cookbooks should conform to Pioneer Woman’s format. I LOVE how she posts a picture of each step in the process of creating these wonderful, simple family favorites. I mean seriously, sometimes I’ve wondered how hard a boil IS a rolling boil? But with this site I don’t have to wonder.

The first recipe I’m going to try is the Bread Pudding….. Ahh, my mouth just waters thinking about a really good bread pudding! Mmmmm!

Feminism and Homeschooling

Filed under: Rants and Opinions — Robin on @ 8:39 am

Stephanie, over at Throwing Marshmallows, put up such an uplifting post on her blog, that I couldn’t possibly say it better.

She had many points on which I agreed, but none so closely match my opinion as the following quote from her blog. This quote was in response to another person’s post that implied that homeschooling moms couldn’t possibly be qualified to teach all aspects of a child’s education because they are taking over duties of a whole “passel” of people within the school system. Plus, she believes that homeschooling moms have no life for themselves because they’ve put everything they have into the child.

Stephanie’s response:

This buys into the belief that homeschooling recreates “school at home” and is best done by experts (hence all homeschool parents must become experts). I won’t get into this too much here (but should remember to write a post on this topic soon!). I will say that I have found that it is very possible to teach my kids without having to be a “qualified teacher” for many reasons. I happen to love learning, am very curious and I have been willing to put some time into researching methods/learning styles. Rather then find this “work” I am thoroughly enjoying myself. I honestly love learning with my kids.

I, also LOVE learning with my child. I feel like I am in school again and he is my best friend sitting next to me.

When I had to sell my business for health reasons, I thought I would be sitting at home feeling worthless. But through homeschooling I do feel worthy. My life is having a direct, positive effect on my child. And I love that!

We need more posts like Stephanie’s. Please, please, if you haven’t read it, pop over and read the whole thing. It’s a fantastic post.
