Very Remote

This experiment is SO cool!

Last weekend, GB’s Uncle D explained how we could unlock our car if we ever got locked out of it. So we decided to try it and see if it works.

If someone has access to the spare remote for your car, call them on your cell phone (or borrow one from someone if the cell phone is locked in the car too!) Next, hold your (or anyone’s) cell phone close to your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the phone. Your car will unlock. It’s the sound that unlocks the car, not a beam.

I was skeptical. But it actually worked! Since my van has this very weird habit of locking all by itself sometimes, this was very reassuring. I’ve always worried that I would have to call my dh at work and ask him to come home and unlock the van. But now, he can do it FROM work! Woo-hoo!

***** Amended on June 2nd, I was SO disappointed to find out that this experiment does NOT work from further than 300 feet. My friend Jennifer, at Toad Haven, sent me a site that dispels the myth. So I sent my teenaged son out of the neighborhood to give it a good test….. It did not work :-(    …………..    My hopes have been dashed…. boo-hoo!

This looks cool, though.
