Observations
After 14 days we have lots of sprouts, but there is a marked difference between the two groups.
In the “R” group, we planted 30 seeds, after one week we had 15 sprouts averaging one inch in height, which seemed like a good growth situation. But after one more week we only had 2 new sprouts, and 4 of the total sprouts seem to be very weak(less than one inch height) with hardly a chance for vigorous growth. The other sprouts seem to be doing well and are at almost 2 inches of height.

In the “S” group, we also planted 30 seeds and we have much hardier plants. We started off with a bang and got 14 sprouts on the sixth day. On the seventh day, we got 4 more. At that point they were about one inch in height. After two weeks, we have a total of 22 sprouts. I can see a new sprout peeking through the soil on another peat pot, so I think we’ll have a few more sprouts. At this time, like in the “R” group, we also have 4 sprouts that look weaker than the rest, but they do have some potential, so I will hold out hope for them. The rest of the sprouts are about two inches tall; just a tad bit taller than in the “R” group.

GB and I are guesstimating that the seeds in the “R” group are the seeds that have been exposed to the space-like conditions. If that is the case, then we believe they will have to bring more seeds into space to ensure the right quantity of quality plants.
This page, at Victory Seeds, was helpful for showing the step-by-step process of growing the tomato seeds, and when they are ready for transplanting I will use this page again.
We will update again in one week.
